The push-feed bolt moved smoothly when we worked it at the bench but wanted to bind a little when we worked it from the shoulder. The bolt head has a small claw extractor mounted inside as well as a plunger type ejector. Three rings of steel, as Remington calls it. The bolt head on a Remington Model 700/7 completely encloses the head of the cartridge, which is then surrounded by the barrel which, in turn, is wrapped by the action.
It has a slender profile that narrows to approximately 0.56 inch at the muzzle. The carbon-steel barrel is 20 inches long with a 1:10 twist. The inside of the barrel channel is even dished out a bit right in front of the recoil lug, where it looks almost like it is bedded to the action. The stock is in firm contact with the barrel for its entire length. There are two sling-swivel studs and an inch-thick-plus Remington SuperCell recoil pad that noticeably reduces felt recoil. The stock shows well-executed checkering on the grip, and more checkering wraps the forend. The stock is a nicely grained, dark walnut with an ebony forend and an oil-rubbed look to the finish. This rifle has a matte-blue finish on the barrel, action, and bottom metal. Our Model 7, basically a compact version of the Remington Model 700, in the CDL variant epitomizes that look. While they can indeed be gorgeous, we are not into high-gloss stocks and metal finishes you can see to shave with on a rifle we are going to beat around with in the woods. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and this group of testers think that hunting rifles should look like hunting rifles. One would think that Remington believes they have a winner on their hands with the Model 7 CDL, and they would be right. By our count from that same website, the Model 700 has been factory produced in 49 different calibers and 81 different models. Not AU’s fault though Remington used to ship these in nice foam lined boxes, too bad they stopped! Everything showed up good to go though and another great deal from Arms Unlimited!Īnonymous Person from Madison, CT United StatesĪnonymous Person from Sheboygan Falls, WI United StatesĪU had the current Remington Defense 700P 24†308 that’s very hard to find during Remington’s transition.According to the Remington website, the Model 700 was introduced in 1962. Also as noted these are shipped in the original Remington box but neither the barrel or the bolt handle had poked through, although the handle did get rubbed pretty good. It’s also got the 40X P (Police) trigger and it’s perfect as is. As noted in other reviews it’s got the threaded 24†1-10 5R rifled barrel, as well as having the receiver tapped for 8-40 screws. Picked one of these up because it was just too good of a deal to pass up. Thank you Arms Unlimited for making this an easy and fast transaction. Overall, this company is awesome and the gun is perfect as well.
I sent it in and within 2 weeks it was returned back to me completely free floating barrel and Remington even did me the favor of bedding the stock. With no cost to me Remington gladly made a repair order on the rifle. The gun barrel was touching the stock ever so slightly rendering the barrel not free floating but Remington had be re-torque the mounting screws which didn't fix the problem. Super Fast shipping, communication of arms unlimited was awesome. Purchased this because of the price, I thought it was too good to be true.
So far, no luck getting anyone on the phone. The barrel isnt centered in the forearm and I would like to speak with Remington about have the issue corrected. Now, if it were just as easy getting in touch with Remington for service. I placed my order, contacted my local FFL, and AU delivered the rifle in about a week. I think that this is the first time I have purchased a firearm from them. I have bought a number of items from AU and have recommended them to many of my friends.
